Mycelium

Statement

This sculpture is about music and its power to connect us—to our memories, our emotions, and the people we love.
The piano key represents music, while the roots growing from it symbolize the deep connections it creates across time, distance, and people.

There’s one memory that takes me back through a single song. Every summer, my family would pile into our Chevrolet Malibu and drive to Lican Ray, a small town in southern Chile. The car was filled with the sound of Pat Metheny’s Last Train Home. I can still see myself looking out the window, the sun lighting up the lush green trees, my heart racing with excitement as we got closer to the summer house. I remember my sisters laughing, my parents smiling, the lake sparkling in the sun, the taste of watermelon and he dark sand stuck everywhere. That song instantly transports me back to those moments.

Now, I invite you to think of that one song, artist, or melody that transports you. The song that makes you feel like you're back in a cherished moment, with someone you miss, or in a place you hold close to your heart. Music has the power to keep those memories alive, connecting us to who we are and where we’ve been.
